Hereford
The Hereford breed is one of the oldest breeds in North America and the foundation breed in most commercial ranches today. Known as the maternal breed, Herefords have much to offer the cattle industry. Docile temperament, hardy animals, fertile and longevity are words that describe the Hereford well. Due to the Hereford purity, whiteface crosses pack that extra hybrid kick. Herefords cross well with all other breeds of cattle and have become a profitable, easily managed option for cattle ranchers today. They are very feed efficient and do more with less, natural convertors of grass and grain to meat.
Both Polled and Horned Herefords are available to meet all needs of the industry. Due to climate conditions in North America, breeders have bred for pigmentation around the eyes and on scrotums and udders to alleviate problems from the sun. Diversity in Hereford genetics is readily available today because of the large number of Purebred producers across Canada and the USA.
